Christine was born and raised in Prince George's County and graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School at the age of 16. After receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from the University of Maryland College Park and getting married, Christine settled in Ward 1 and has called Laurel home for a little over 20 years.
Community - Christine is very active in the community. She has been active in her church since 1996, and in her neighborhood condo association since 2013. In 2014, Christine began working with the City of Laurel where her interest in local government grew tremendously. As Administrative Assistant for the Department of Communications, and also backup Receptionist and Passport Agent, Christine has had the opportunity to interact with the public and hear first hand the questions and issues posed by citizens daily. She is currently a member and 2nd VP of the Woman's Club of Laurel, a member of the Laurel Board of Trade and the Friends of Laurel Library.
Hobbies - In her downtime, you can find her reading a book, taking Zumba classes at the community center, and she can sometimes be found in the box office for Laurel Mill Playhouse where she has even tried her chops at acting in community theater. Christine is a friendly, outgoing and social person who wants others to know about and be involved in their community, where she believes you can truly make a difference.
Pertinent Issues:
We as a community need to work together to combat the rodent situation. The City has provided literature on ways to prevent rats on your property. Some ways include:
Washing away droppings and track marks
Getting rid of clutter
Controlling weeds, shrubs & bushes
Managing garbage
Shutting them out by filling large holes, sealing cracks, etc.
Wiping them out using bait (commercial & multi-unit property owners must hire a professional)
The City of Laurel follows the Prince George's County guidelines and is currently under a rent stabilization act to temporarily limit a landlord's ability to increase rent for certain tenants above a certain amount, providing for certain exceptions, providing that existing obligations or contract rights may not be impaired by this Act; and generally relating to rent restrictions for residential leases and rental dwelling units.
Identifying and protecting vulnerable citizens in our community should be paramount. As we take care of them, they become aware of the services provided to them, get the help needed and in turn become productive citizens.
Member of my condo association. Provide mobile notary services; volunteer for many organizations; certified passport agent and previously employed at City Hall where I answered questions and provided resources daily
Open-minded, fair. I want to do what is best for the community. I will listen
I want to continue to give back to the community that I love. I want people to know all that Laurel has to offer.
